INVITATION TO ALL ARTISTS TO SUPPORT ARTISTIC FREEDOM AND SAY NO TO CENSORSHIP

On Sunday 26 June five Sydney artists painted the SAY YES TO WANJINA... AND NO TO CENSORSHIP mural in Newtown, in Sydney, in response to the Land and Envirnoment Court decision to uphold the local Blue Mountains council order for the Wanjina Watchers in the Whispering Stone sculpture created by Maroubra-based artist Benedikt Osvath to be removed from the front lawn of the ModroGorje gallery in Katoomba.

This decision appears to give even more power to already power-crazy local bureaucrats. Eager to indulge Aboriginal people, they were able to enforce censorship by manipulating planning laws, using the heritage listing of the house as an excuse.

ModroGorje owners and artists are inviting artists all over the world to paint murals of this image everywhere, to affirm their right to artistic self-expression.
